COURSES

(Registrants choose one of these five courses)

1. A New Testament Toolbox   - The Rev. Heather Benson

The Stories behind the stories. A review and introduction to some of the basic tools and approaches of Biblical Scholarship. Some of the more interesting imaginative tools and approaches such as Midrash and Lectio Divina, and some on the contribution of such other disciplines as Archaeology.

2. The Mysteries of the Book of Revelation Clarified!   - The Rev. Dr. Richard A. Henshaw

Though placed last in the New Testament, this book is first in importance. Our liturgy uses many of its terms. Symbolism (to be explained!) is everywhere. Its story: though the world will go through some bad patches, the end-time will turn out all right, indeed, it will be beautiful. We will recognize the apocalyptic in our present day, as reflected from this book.

3. Good " ‘Byes":  Some Favorite Fare-Thee-Wells    - Richard Quaintance

From Scripture, Shakespeare and Yeats, from Lincoln’s Gettysburg to Eisenhower’s military-industrial complex, (including your own favorites) we’ll sample how folks part from what they’ve loved.

4. Everyday Spirituality    - Dr. Anne Winchell Silver
Growing in our relationship with God is a lifelong process that we all can include in our daily lives! In this course we will discuss and try out a variety of spiritual practices involving prayer, scripture, silence, movement, gratitude, discernment, literature and art, journaling, and social action. Other topics include: finding ongoing resources for our spiritual growth and formulating a "rule of life" to support us. Recommended reading: Margaret Guenther’s At Home in the World: A Rule of Life for the Rest of Us.

5. Recycling Paper and Stuff, A Hands On Crafting Workshop   - Pat Welti

Crafting with paper and used household items we will construct baskets, note cards, decorations, and other useful items. This course will provide hands on experience that is fun and may be taught to others. No experience is necessary. Bring scissors that will cut paper, brown grocery bags and a few colored envelopes.
